Depression and being asexual

Posted in Group:

I started my change of life in my late 40's,I'm now 54 and just recently have been exhibiting mood swings from hell, the hot flashes are brutal and I'm the 1st female in my family to go through this, all my female relatives including my mum had their female parts removed in their early to late 20's,I hate being touched,I have not had relations with my husband for 6 years and even the thought of being intimate makes my stomach roll,I dont even like kissing anymore,I dont like anything/anyone near my face,I wont do HRT due to it has horse urine in it,at least Premarin does, any advice on how to make changes I can live with, the depression really sucks.

Perhaps Yoga might be something worth looking into. It has been shown to help regulate some of the more uncomfortable side effects of menopause. It may help with your overall mood and improve your depression. Here is a great article from the Yoga Journal about the "Graceful Change,": http://www.yogajournal.com/health/1139

I hope this helps.

Hi Eireann, thank you for sharing. I'm new here and am also 54, almost 55, and I thought most of this stuff happens in our 40's but I too am having hot flashes from hell and night sweats. Sleep is hot, sweaty and full of horrible dreams. The depression/anxiety at times during the day is unbearable, then I'm okay sometimes, so yes, these are mood swings. And also no sexual relations right now although my husband is supportive. My therapist wants to talk about balance, lifestyle, external things but, being a man, doesn't get it. Do I really need to be on all these psych meds, how much of this is mental and how much is hormonal? I can't seem to scream loud enough at my doctor, or i dont know exactly what to tell him? I dont know if my HMO does compound pharmacy, etc? At this point I dont care about the health risks of HRT, I don't want to learn anything, lol, I just want to not be freaked out and feel like the sky is falling. And these dreams suck, i hate going to sleep. Yes, I agree Premarin is not the answer either. Thank you for listening.
